October 25th, 2018 – The 18th Annual SAN Caregiver Recognition Dinner took place to recognize the over 30+ caregivers who were nominated throughout The Thurston, Mason, and Lewis County area. It was an evening filled with laughter, tears, but especially appreciation for all of the valued caregivers who were nominated and in attendance. These silent heroes of our community often mean so much to the many families, clients, and residents they serve. Over 100+ people gathered at the South Sound Manor in Tumwater to show honor and recognition to these caregivers, as 19 were selected as “stand out honorees” among their peers. Their stories were shared aloud and awards were handed out while being cheered on by co-workers, family, friends, employers, and other professionals in the senior care community.
Among the award recipients that evening was Clair Ferris, founder of Funeral Alternatives, seen right. He received the Dennis Mahar Community Caregiver of the Year Award for his tireless community service contributions throughout the county. Other winners included family caregivers, a volunteer caregiver, paid in home caregivers, facility caregivers and one adult family home winner.
The Senior Action Network consists of more than 175 Thurston, Mason, and Lewis Counties members dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors through business development and services. SAN members meet monthly for professional development, networking, education, and community service. SAN distributed more than $12,000 last year throughout senior communities and has outreach speakers available to promote awareness on topics important to enhancing senior life.
The 2018 Caregivers’ Recognition Dinner also included a fundraising silent auction which raised funds to support the Senior Action Network mission and programs. Nominations to recognize more Outstanding Caregivers at this annual event will be available at the end of every August. Think about who you might nominate in 2019!
